This special presentation of 'A Little Night Music,' a Tony Award-Winner for Best Musical, is one of the School of the Arts' free offerings. Seating is first come, first served.
CSU Opera TheatreCSU Opera Theatre brings you an experimental workshop presentation of the Tony award winning Broadway musical, A Little Night Music by
by Stephen Sondheim.
The event is free and open to the public.
Directed byTiffany Blake, the production takes place on Wednesday, May 6 and Thursday, May 7 at 5 p.m. (special time) in the Organ Recital Hall, University Center for the Arts.
The 1973 Tony Award-Winner for Best Musical features a beautiful score, including the classic, "Send in the Clowns." Based on the Ingmar Bergman film, Smiles of a Summer Night, the musical is an intricate, romantic tale set almost entirely in waltz time.
Offsetting the romance are situations of human drama where relationships are examined through perceptions of societal status. Once characterized by Sondheim as "whipped cream and knives," the tension of multiple scandals and heartbreak is broken by witty one-liners and comedic interplay.
Mary Beth Eversole, who plays the role of the Countess said, "It's the most decently indecent fun I've ever had. Yet, A Little Night Music cries out for us to recognize that life is fleeting...make something of yourself...don't throw yourself away."
