Preview and Next Step orientation welcome new students to CSU

On Friday, May 22, Orientation and Transition Programs, or OTP, hosted their first of 26 Orientation sessions held throughout the summer. Over 5,000 incoming students are expected to participate in one of the orientation sessions which will continue through Aug. 4. Orientation at Colorado State University exists to ease the transition for all new students.

Preview

Preview is the freshman orientation program at Colorado State University. Twenty-one sessions are offered during the summer for incoming freshman students, their family members and guests.

During the two-day program, freshmen are given the best opportunity to:

• complete academic advising
• register for fall classes
• learn about the many resources available on campus
• meet other students

Preview also offers a program specifically designed for family and guests to learn more about the University.

Next Step

During the summer, OTP also hosts five Next Step orientation sessions for students transferring to Colorado State University. To meet the unique needs of transfer students, this one-day program distinguishes CSU from students’ previous institutions and prepares them for a successful fall semester.

During Next Step, students can:

• register for classes
• obtain a student ID
• take placement exams
• learn about financial aid, housing, parking, and campus resources

Orientation Leaders

Undergraduate student Orientation Leaders serve as mentors for incoming students and families throughout the Orientation process. These exceptional students guide participants through the Orientation process and provide information about the University.
 
Students selected for this position demonstrate commitment to serving diverse individuals and programs and feel comfortable serving as a role model for new students.

Orientation and Transition Programs is a part of the Center for Advising and Student Achievement at Colorado State University. The mission of OTP is to assist in the orientation and transition experience of transfer, first year, and second year students by providing comprehensive and intentional programming, services, and outreach to promote students’ academic and personal achievement through active engagement within our diverse campus community.
