Facilities / Parking
October 14, 2009
Colorado State University Parking Services has recently installed five new solar-powered "Pay-and-Display" multi-space parking meters around campus. The weather resistant meters, produced by Cale Parking Systems USA, Inc., will deliver a higher level of service and convenience to the campus community while minimizing impact on the environment.
Environmentally-friendlyThe new parking meters are powered via a 12-volt battery that is charged by a solar panel mounted on the top of the meter. This new, renewable meter technology completely eliminates the need for providing dedicated A/C electrical power, which helps the environment by reducing overall non-renewable power consumption.
This solution also provides Parking Services with enhanced location flexibility, as the meters no longer have to be placed in direct proximity to an available power source.
Despite being far more advanced than the meters they are replacing, these new meters are very simple to operate for the customer. Instructions for meter usage are printed on an easy-to-read placard on the front of the machine, and payment information is clearly displayed on the LCD screen.
Customers using these meters have expanded payment options with the addition of support for CSU RamCard and Visa/MasterCard transactions. Coins, including dollar coins, are also accepted, but paper currency is not.
Real-time system monitoring provides Parking Services with timely notifications of meter malfunctions and improved payment auditing ability.
