'Platanos and Collard Greens' Nov. 10

Students can enjoy a free performance of the off-Broadway play "Platanos and Collard Greens" on Nov. 10, presented by Pi Lambda Chi Latina Sorority, ASAP, and Campus Activities.

Play portrays interracial relationship

"Platanos and Collard Greens" is an off-Broadway play that has captivated audiences of more than 150,000 both in New York City and at over 150 colleges and universities around the country since its premier in 2003.

The play tells the story of two college students — Freeman, an African American man, and Angelita, a Latina woman — who must confront racial issues, stereotypes, and prejudices due to their relationship.

The play written by David Lamb and produced by Summer Hill Seven incorporates hip hop, humor and satire to address these issues. The New York Times calls it "a modern day 'West Side Story.'"

Free live performance at CSU

"Platanos and Collard Greens" has toured around college campuses across the country. Now, students can come see a live performance of the off-Broadway production at CSU for free.

• Where: Lory Student Center Theatre
• Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the show starts at 7 p.m.
