Professor Mark Brown's students nominated him for the 2009 Honors Professor of the Year Award and he was selected for the award by the officers of the Honors Student Association. His lecture, "A Cultural History of Infectious Disease," takes place on Wednesday evening, Nov. 11.

The winner of the 2009 Honors Professor of the Year Award, Mark Brown, Ph.D., will present a lecture titled, "A Cultural History of Infectious Disease."
Brown was nominated by students in his honors seminar and selected for the award by the officers of the Honors Student Association.
The event is free and open to the public.
Mark Brown obtained his Ph.D. in Molecular Genetics at the University of Texas in Austin. Having completed his B.S. at Colorado State University, he recently returned and was appointed as the Director of the Office for Undergraduate Research and Artistry.
He also serves as a senior consultant for the biotech/pharmaceutical industry. His specialties include oversight of research and development, manufacturing practices, FDA compliancy, clinical trials, commercialization, and scientific advising in molecular genetics and enzymology.
Since returning to CSU in 2008, he has taught seminars on infectious disease and pharmaceutical science.
The Honors Professor award is given by the Honors Student Association in recognition of outstanding teaching. Honors faculty are known not only for excellent teaching but also for making significant contributions to research or publication in their fields. Some engage in collaborative research with Honors students and serve as thesis advisors or mentors.
