'Temple Grandin Day' in Fort Collins April 6

In recognition of Temple Grandin's contributions to advancing the understanding and treatment of autism, as well as her contributions to the humane treatment of livestock, Fort Collins Mayor Doug Hutchinson proclaimed April 6, 2010, as 'Temple Grandin Day.'

Best-selling author, animal science expert

Grandin is a professor of animal science at Colorado State University and the best-selling author of The Way I See It: A Personal Look at Autism and Aspergers. She is widely noted for her work in autism advocacy; she is a prominent speaker on the subject and is the inventor of the hug machine designed to calm hypersensitive persons.

Grandin is also well known for her work improving conditions at large processing plants that slaughter cattle and pigs.

Inspires millions worldwide

Grandin has been featured in numerous national publications and programs. As a person with high functioning autism, Grandin continues to inspire millions and has provided for great advances in the understanding of autism.

The special proclamation took place 6 p.m. April 6, prior to the regularly scheduled City Council meeting.

April is Autism Awareness Month.
