Students, alumni play for passion at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest Aug. 20-22

While many students graduate and move on to careers within their majors, others take a completely different approach and follow their passions. It's these passions that lead them to explore their goals and aspirations in a more uncommon route.

Something to do in FoCo

When you’re not at Ram Welcome or moving into your new residence hall or apartment this weekend, you can drop by Old Town and check out these Colorado State University students and alumni as they perform, sing, and entertain Aug. 20-22 during Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest.

Good Gravy

Good Gravy, a Fort Collins based jam band, features a jamming bluegrass sound by incorporating Electronica, Funk, and World genres into a mixture of layers that provide a new and fresh sound. Evan Brenton, a Colorado State undergrad majoring in landscape architecture and sculpture, plays the upright bass for Good Gravy.

Currently awaiting the release of their new CD Aug. 27, Good Gravy and Brenton will pass the time by playing at Bohemian Nights at NewWestFest this year.

Danielle Ate the Sandwich

Danielle Anderson, a 2006 Colorado State fashion design graduate, wanted to design handbags until she became a YouTube sensation. After displaying her ukulele talents on the well-known video website, Anderson became a national favorite within the college circuit through writing and singing her own lyrics.

However, it is through her quirky personality and quick wit that Anderson manages to entertain and draw a crowd wherever she goes -- perhaps this is what helped launch her videos to international success.

Branden Sipes

Another Colorado State graduate, Branden Sipes, earned both a music and business degree by studying guitar, voice, and marketing. Upon graduating, Sipes continued to pursue his musical career through performing, recording, and teaching guitar.

Recently, Sipes released his debut EP, Contemplation, which has been gaining increasing attention. Sipes has been awarded First Alternate in the 2008 Telluride Troubadour Competition, Honorable Mention in the 2008 Rocky Mountain Folks Festival, and Honorable Mention in The John Lennon Songwriting Contest.
