Gamma Tau successful at regional competition

Gamma Tau placed second at the Regional Best Practices Competition March 25 and 26. The students presented in the "Helping Others Understand the Financial Information Professions" category.

Competing against 14 universities

Gamma Tau, CSU’s chapter of Beta Alpha Psi, placed second at the Regional Best Practices Competition on March 25 and 26 in Salt Lake City, Utah. The Rocky Mountain Region of BAP includes 14 universities in Colorado, Utah, Idaho, and Montana. Representatives from all 14 universities attended this year’s conference, which was hosted by the University of Utah. 

Best in state

The students representing CSU and BAP were:

On their way to taking second place in the competition, the CSU team outperformed in-state rivals University of Denver and the University of Colorado at Boulder.

Building new relationships with outreach program

The team presented in the category “Helping Others Understand the Financial Information Professions.” The students addressed this topic by giving a presentation on their recent outreach program to Fort Collins high school students.

The team discussed how their BAP chapter created a new program with the goal of building relationships between the accounting program at CSU and the local high schools’ business programs.

The BAP team arranged to speak to several classes at Rocky Mountain High School and Fort Collins High School. The topics covered included an overview of what accountants do, what their roles are in modern businesses, and advice on how to be successful in college.

New program provides positivie responses

The team said responses from both high schools were very positive and student interaction was better than they expected.

“Both our chapter of BAP and the Fort Collins community have benefited from this new program. The chapter has created new connections and we’re hoping to continue these outreach programs to area high schools with future events,” the team said during their presentation at the competition.

“This was the first year that CSU participated in the Best Practices Competition, and I’m very proud of the students who put so much hard work and dedication into the project. We’re looking forward to building on our success and competing at future events,” said Lauren Long, the team’s faculty advisor.

Beta Alpha Psi

Beta Alpha Psi is an international student organization for accounting and computer information systems majors who have excelled academically. CSU sponsored last year’s regional conference, and next year’s conference will be hosted by the University of Wyoming.
