Each semester RamPR works with a different client for their public relations needs. This semester, they are working with Pets Forever, a non-profit organization designed to support the promotion of human and animal health and well-being by providing help and resources to low-income elderly or disabled.
Past clients include the Salvation Army, the Jingle Bell run for the Arthritis Foundation, Pizza Casbah and Holocaust and Genocide Awareness Week. The clients are ever changing, allowing students to work with a wide variety of clientele and cater to their different needs.
It doesn’t matter when you join or what your experience level is – the organization encourages any major, at any time, to stop by and work on the skills they want to acquire, said Veronica Jenssen, RamPR’s current director.
Skills practiced at the meetings include creating pitch letters, press releases, business cards and brochures, website design and more. RamPR also spends time fund raising and raising awareness for both themselves and their current client.
Jenssen also said that RamPR is an activity where student’s academic needs come first, and the organization takes this into account and stresses that RamPR does not have to be a huge time commitment. Meetings are not mandatory, and to ensure completed assignments, students need take on only the amount of public relations work that they feel comfortable handling.
Currently, RamPR meets weekly, on Tuesdays from 5 to 6 p.m., to brainstorm and hand out assignments. Those seeking more information can either check out RamPR’s Facebook page or e-mail Veronica Jenssen.
