The Division of Student Affairs is pleased to announce the establishment of the Pamela J. Zimdahl Memorial Scholarship to support students who are single parents.
Pam Zimdahl was born and raised in Denver, the oldest of three sisters. She graduated from Thomas Jefferson High School and continued her education at CSU, where she earned her bachelor's in December 1968 and Master's of Education in 1989. Her working life began as an English teacher, but the arrival of her sons, Matt and Ryan, gave her other paths to pursue.
Pam returned to Fort Collins in 1976 as a single parent and devoted herself to raising her sons and starting a new career. She worked tirelessly to raise her family as she began a steady rise in the CSU system. She guided her sons through elementary, junior high, and high school, while being an exemplary breadwinner and homemaker and ensuring her sons had as many opportunities as possible.
As she maintained and advanced her employment at CSU, Pam assisted both sons with their post high-school education by teaching English at Front Range Community College at night and during her lunch hours. Her selfless efforts on behalf of her family were amply rewarded as both sons are successful in their chosen careers.
Pam retired in 2008 after a 32-year career with CSU. The scholarship has been established by Pam’s husband, Robert L. Zimdahl, a retired CSU professor.
The purpose of the scholarship is to benefit single parent students enrolled at CSU. The recipient of the scholarship must:
1. be a head of household and a single parent,
2. a full time undergraduate student pursuing any major in any college,
3. a resident of Colorado,
4. demonstrate financial need as established by the Office of Student Financial Services of CSU, and
5. have achieved a 3.0 GPA.
The scholarship is non-renewable and will not be awarded to any student more than once.
