Raul was nominated by Roy Pundt, Custodian III Supervisor in Facilities, for an Everyday Hero Award.
Facilities – Plumbing Shop
Raul has been working in the Plumbing Shop for 15 years and has been at CSU for 26 years. Raul was working at Judson Cattle Company when he was called back to CSU. Because of insurance and vacation benefits provided here and the short drive, Raul came back and started his career at CSU.
Roy Pundt nominated Raul for an Everyday Hero Award because of his dedication to exceptional customer service and to doing the job right.
“Raul has been working for Facilities for 25 years now,” Roy says. “His first 10 years Raul worked as a custodian, the next 15 years working in the plumbing shop. I have met many plumbers here on campus over the years, but none compared to Raul. When he's on a repair job, he shows uppermost respect and professionalism toward his customers. Raul is fast and proficient in getting the job done so as not to inconvenience the building occupants, and always cleans up after himself knowing custodians have hectic schedules.
“Raul responds to every dispatch call he receives during his routine schedule, and every weekend you'll see Raul here on campus answering the call of emergency work for pipe repair.”
Roy continues by saying, “Raul’s dedication for Facilities and the university display the quality of work that reflects high professional standards not only on himself but his department as well. People know that when Raul does a job it has been completed to the best of his abilities and they also know that if they ever need help, he'll make the time to offer assistance.
“Anytime he sees a person in need whether it's a fellow co-worker, custodian or a student, he always offers his assistance. Raul is always wearing a smile and loves to joke with people to ease the burden of everyday stress.”
When Raul is not working, he enjoys fishing, woodworking and carpentry, and his 10 grandchildren. His plans for the future include working for a couple more years at CSU and then retiring. When he retires, he plans on spending more time with his grandchildren and doing more volunteer work. When asked what he wanted fellow employees to know about him, Raul said he’s easy going and will give you the shirt off his back if you need it.
When asked what he thought about being nominated for the Everyday Hero award, Raul modestly said that going above and beyond is just part of his job.
Do you have a colleague who deserves recognition, a co-worker who makes the workplace better or someone who just “made your day?”
Everyday Hero is a special recognition program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council for recognizing outstanding employees within the CSU community.
All Colorado State University state classified staff, administrative professionals, and faculty members are eligible to receive the award.
