Records Unit Manager
Human Resources Department
Shelly has been working in her present position in Human Resources since February of last year. She's been working at CSU for 19 years. Shelly has been involved with the School is Cool program and is currently serving as the school liaison.
Wendy Gleason in the NREL nominated Shelly for an Everyday Hero award because she "knows, understands and implements the ‘internal customer service’ concept." Wendy describes Shelly by saying, “She is so pleasant to work with. The human resources process can at times be arduous and frustrating. Shelly manages to steer you through it with patience and passing along knowledge for future reference.
“I wish that she were in every department so we could get service like this everywhere.”
Shelly has also touched the Classified Personnel Council personally. Steven Dove, chairman of the Employee Recognition Committee, describes his contact with Shelly: “Shelly has performed over 50 employment verifications for CPC in the last couple months between the Educational Assistance and Outstanding Achievement Awards. I don’t know if this was in her job description, but I know determining years of state-classified service on that many individuals was time consuming, and Shelly gave me the information quickly and cheerfully.”
When Shelly isn't working, she enjoys helping at her kids’ school, taking her kids to activities like swim team, football and basketball and also reading. One of Shelly’s favorite books is The Stand by Stephen King.
When asked what she wanted fellow employees to know about herself, Shelly says she loves being on the CSU campus, loves the atmosphere and loves to help people out. Shelly is looking forward to visiting different places with her family including Ireland to visit her heritage.
Shelly says she was deeply honored when she found out she was nominated for the Everyday Hero Award. “It’s extra nice to be doing a job you love and be recognized for it.”
Do you have a colleague who deserves recognition, a co-worker who makes the workplace better or someone who just “made your day?”
Everyday Hero is a special recognition program sponsored by the Classified Personnel Council for recognizing outstanding employees within the CSU community.
All Colorado State University state classified staff, administrative professionals, and faculty members are eligible to receive the award.
