Mason Street between Laurel and Old Main Drive will be closed from July 16 - Aug. 3 while BNSF replaces that section of railroad tracks.
Most cross streets are open, with only Myrtle and Laporte closed.
During the Bohemian Nights/NewWestFest weekend, you may access the Civic Center Parking Garage from Laporte or Mountain. A temporary right-in, right-out lane will allow motorists entrance and exit from Mason Street off of Mountain. Access is also open on the Laporte entrance and exit.
The Laporte and Mason intersection is still under construction due to underground work happening on the west side of the intersection. Crews are focused on opening a pedestrian crossing as soon as possible.
Crews are also focused on the blocks between Laurel and Mulberry. The construction schedule has been adapted to open both north and south lanes of Mason by the end of the business day, Wednesday, Aug. 15.
There will be single lane closures in each direction on Laurel near Mason to complete crosswalks and curb and gutter work.
The city’s part of the project is now underway to build curb and gutter around the railroad track. At the same time, city traffic crews will be installing traffic signal cross arms, traffic signs and traffic markings. The city reports that intersection closures may remain for installation of storm drainage pipeline connections. However, this work will be kept to a minimum and for short durations over the next month.
Curb and gutter will first be installed on the east side of Mason Street between Maple Street and Old Main Drive on campus. Then, the project will focus on curb and gutter installation on the west side of Mason Street. As the work is completed, sections of northbound and new southbound traffic will reopen. The city says to expect sections of northbound traffic on Mason Street to reopen in mid-August. The new southbound lane will reopen in early September.

The intersection of Laurel and Mason Streets will be closed from 6 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1 through the evening of Thursday, Aug. 2.
Mason Street intersections at Laurel, Oak and Cherry are open today. Mulberry is temporarily slated to open by end of day Wednesday, according to city oplanners. Laurel and Mason may close again on Friday, Aug. 3.
Due to unexpected delays during overnight work, the Laurel/Mason Street intersection is reduced to one lane this morning for Mason Street Corridor construction.
City project planners report that a full closure of the Laurel/Mason intersection is imminent today to complete track work, and will remain closed through the weekend and into Monday, possibly Tuesday. The Mulberry/Mason intersection also will be closed for work.
Prospect and Cherry Street intersections at Mason will remain open and are the advised alternative routes.

The intersections of Laurel and Mason Streets and Mulberry and Mason Streets will be closed intermittently the week of July 23 while Burlington Northern lays new railroad track. At this time, BNSF and city project managers are unable to commit to dates and times for the closures, but do plan to stagger the closures so that while the Laurel intersection is closed, the Mulberry intersection is open, and vice versa. City project planners are recommending that traffic to campus be routed south of Laurel for the week to other east-west entrances including Prospect Road. Old Main remains closed through August 3.
The project is a City of Fort Collins and BNSF project.
Laurel Street will be closed again at Mason Street on Wednesday, July 18, from approximately 9 a.m. to 4 p.m.
Due to a last-minute change in construction plans, Laurel Street is closed at Mason Street today from 2 p.m.-4 p.m.
The tracks will be replaced from Old Main Drive to Cherry Street during that time period, impacting traffic across East-West corridors throughout Old Town.
Initial stages of the Mason Street corridor project also will impact parking in lot #325, north of Sage Hall. Laurel Street will be closed for two to three days during the project, but Mason Street will be closed through Old Town for the entire time. The parking lot at Sage Hall also will be closed from July 16-Aug. 3.
The project also will impact the intersection of Lake and Mason streets. Additional impact to Mason Street and east-west cross streets will occur this fall when tracks through campus are changed.
The city is offering a temporary, free shuttle through Old Town while Mason Street is closed from campus to Cherry Street. For more information about the shuttle and complete information about the City of Fort Collins project as it progresses through the Old Town and campus areas, visit the city's project website.
