For what has become a fun summer tradition, the CSU Music Program, in collaboration with Opera Fort Collins, presents a concert version of the popular Broadway musical Mame at 7:30 p.m. Friday, July 20 in the Griffin Concert Hall.
Tickets are $5 for general admission and are available at the University Center for the Arts Ticket Office located in the UCA Griffin Lobby, by phone at (970) 491-2787, or online. Advanced purchase is recommended to avoid lines and at-the-door ticket fees.
The 1966 musical, with book by Jerome Lawrence and Robert Edwin Lee, music and lyrics by Jerry Herman, and based on the 1955 novel Auntie Mame by Patrick Dennis, is the tale of the irrepressible Mame Dennis who lives an eccentric, pre-Great Depression life in New York City, surrounded by wealthy bohemian friends.
When her orphaned young nephew and his naïve nanny come to live with her, she continues to embrace her motto of "Life is a banquet and most poor suckers are starving to death," as through humor and love they cope with two decades of joy and heartache. The production includes the memorable tunes: Mame, We Need a Little Christmas and If He Walked into My Life.
The concert will be conducted by students from CSU’s Summer Conducting Seminar and Master’s Program: Sabrina Baugh, Tobias Clouser, Eric Colgrove, Evan Dixon, Kristin Emmert, Rachel Halladay, Brian Jordan, Anna Maria Luisi, Eddie Mendenhall, John Spillane, Laura Williams and Thomas Wilson. Lead roles will be sung by students from the Opera Fort Collins Apprentice Artist program.
