The Colorado Women of Influence have honored university distinguished professor Diana Wall and Guadalupe Salazar, the director of El Centro at Colorado State University, as 2012 Women of Vision.
The winners were announced at a July 11 gala at the Fort Collins Marriott.
“We are extremely proud that Diana Wall and Guadalupe Salazar have been recognized by the Colorado Women of Influence as 2012 Women of Vision,” said CSU Provost and Executive Vice President Rick Miranda. “Diana has established a well-deserved international reputation for her research in the Antarctic, and lately her directorship of our School of Global Environmental Sustainability has launched that unit to be a comprehensive force at Colorado State University.
“Lupe is not only a woman of vision, who sees things others do not - but she is also a woman to whom others look for inspiration, for guidance, and for support, in so many ways. Congratulations to them both!”
In addition to being one of only 12 University Distinguished Professors on campus, Wall is also the founding director of the School of Global Environmental Sustainability, or SoGES.
She is the former president of the Ecological Society of America and an ecologist in the department of biology at CSU.
Wall has spent 22 seasons in Antarctic Dry Valleys examining the response of soil biodiversity and ecosystem processes to environmental change. In 2005, Wall Valley in Antarctica was named for her achievements.
Wall has an honorary doctorate from Utrecht University, the Netherlands, and is a Fellow of the American Association for the Advancement of Science.
Salazar is the director of El Centro, which provides workshops, leadership opportunities, and Latina/o cultural awareness programs that promote student success and retention on campus.
She is directly responsible for assisting students in adjusting to the university’s environment and developing skills that contribute to their graduation. Over the past 20 years, she has served as a role model mentoring countless students.
Salazar earned degrees in Business Administration and Spanish from the University of Northern Colorado. She earned a master’s in science and her Ph.D. in educational leadership and human resources from CSU.
