Join the CSU campus and community as President Tony Frank gives his annual Fall Address on the Oval.
President Frank will deliver his Fall Address on Thursday, Sept. 13, on the university's historic Oval. He will address highlights of the past year and efforts to build on CSU’s academic excellence.
The university community is invited to gather at the Oval at 11:15 a.m. with the Colorado State Marching Band. Frank will begin his comments at 11:30 a.m. from the south end of the Oval.
Immediately following the address is the annual University Picnic, celebrating the spirit and diversity of CSU.
This year's menu will offer:
*University dining centers will be closed, with the exception of Braiden and Corbett halls.
Blue Grama, a local bluegrass band from Fort Collins, will provide this year's picnic entertainment. Taking their name from the long-lived, warm season, native Colorado grass, Blue Grama blends the sound of the Appalachian hills with the high plains of the Rockies. Just as the grass roots hold tight to the soil, Blue Grama is deeply rooted in bluegrass tradition, inspired by greats like Bill Monroe, Earl Scruggs and Del McCoury Band. The band has developed an innovative and unique sound that breaks new ground while still incorporating many elements of traditional folk music. Blue Grama's repertoire includes a suite of original songs, as well as bluegrass standards and "grassy" cover tunes.
The University Picnic was first held in September 1997 as a thank-you to the university community for pulling together in the aftermath of the devastating Spring Creek Flood. The event has been a university tradition ever since.
University classes will not be canceled, but departments are encouraged to arrange schedules to accommodate those who wish to attend.
On July 28, 1997, the Spring Creek Flood devastated our campus and Fort Collins, but it brought out the best in CSU's people. The tradition of the University picnic began that fall after the flood, as a way to celebrate CSU's enduring spirit and community.
The Oval will be closed to traffic and parking throughout the day. In case of inclement weather, check the CSU website at www.colostate.edu for updates on a possible location change.
Sponsored by the President's Office.
