The Association of Occupational Health Professionals in Healthcare has awarded the partners in the Mountain & Plains Education and Research Center, including CSU, as the recipient of the 2012 AOHP Business Recognition Award.
The award was presented earlier this month at the association's Annual National Conference in Las Vegas, Nev.
The MAP ERC, one of 18 ERCs supported by the National Institute for Occupational Safety and Health, is a partnership among Colorado State University, the University of Colorado Denver, National Jewish Health, Denver Health and Hospital Authority, and the University of New Mexico. The MAP ERC helps to meet the employee health and safety needs of a seven-state region by teaching graduate students, by training occupational medical residents and by providing continuing education to practicing professionals.
Stephen Reynolds, a professor in Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences at CSU, serves as deputy director of the Mountain and Plains ERC and David Gilkey, associate professor of Environmental and Radiological Health Sciences serves as director of Continuing Education for the program.
CSU runs four of the five training programs associated with the center. Lee Newman of the University of Colorado Denver serves as director.
The Association of Occupational and Health Professionals in Healthcare, or AOHP, is a national association representing thousands of healthcare workers whose vision is to be the defining authority shaping healthcare worker safety and well-being. Its Business Award, created in 2007, recognizes a healthcare organization, business, corporation or government agency which actively supports occupational health professionals in healthcare and encourages their participation in AOHP programs and activities.
The association recognized MAP ERC for helping to educate association members through webinars and in-person lectures. The MAP ERC has developed a strong relationship with the association over the past two years to help provide continuing medical education credits for the AOHP National Conference.
According to AOHP Executive President Dee Tyler, RN COHN-S FAAOHN, who presented the MAP ERC with the award, “The MAP ERC supports the mission of AOHP by offering direct support of AOHP activities. AOHP and the MAP ERC are both dedicated to ensuring safe and healthy workplaces for healthcare workers.”
AOHP is committed to promoting the health, safety and well-being of healthcare workers through: advocacy; occupational health education and networking opportunities; health and safety advancement through best practice and research; and partnering with other invested stakeholders.
